Two-factor banking
by Kelly Martin

Trust in financial institutions is eroding as phishing scams grow exponentially; adding two-factor authentication is our only hope.

"People who lived through the Second World War, like my grandparents, had a very different view of money than those of us who grew up in the Information Age. Many of us still remember being told how foolish it is to keep one's life savings under a bed mattress, because the banks were known as trusted entities that will always do a better job of looking after your money. Even my grandparents, albeit reluctantly, came to realize that putting trust in financial institutions was the only way to go."

Full disclosure:

I should note that I am working on a forthcoming project which heavily uses token-based transaction signing, and previously on SMS based transaction signing for retail customers at one of Australia's largest banks:

I cannot discuss the forthcoming project in any more detail as only a small fraction of the details have been publicly released to the press (in particular, the Australian Financial Review 29/9 p.43 ;) When the Bank decides to get more publicity or the product is released, I will let you folks know.

thanks,
Andrew
