Way to jump to conclusions there Mike. I was pointing out the fact the
we *do* provide win32 binaries for Snort. If there *was* such an issue
why we would provide binaries?
Shirkdog, likes being a smart-ass and is pretty funny most of the
time. I don't mind that he adds some flavor to the list (it keeps
things interesting). However, I do counter him sometimes just because
I know we have n00bs on the list that may not know any better. What is
more harmful is personal attacks like calling people "stupid".

James, yes, this happens when Snort hasn't inserted anything to mysql in
a
bit. Mysql will time out the connection. I suggest the use of the
unified
output plugin, then use "barnyard" to read those unified files and
insert
them into the database.
As a general recommendation for everyone on the list, Snort should never
be
logging directly to the DB.
