Programs like Barnyard that do post-processing of trafic dumped by snort.

And programs you may have written that use sid-msg.map to "translate" from the sensor:sid:priority format to the English name for the alert. (We use such a program, so we always have to remember to restart barnyard *and* reload the program I refer to after making rules changes or additions.
