I am, very new to linux say just a week old. your advice would be of great help to me.Please do not use linux jargons.A simple and detailed answer would be of immense help.

It's very odd for you to get an error quite like that, but I can translate it for you.

Somewhere during the snort startup script that you are running, one program tried to launch another, but that program did not exist.

Presumably the init script is failing to find one of the utilities it uses, or has the wrong path for the snort binary.

1) what Linux platform are you using, i.e.: what distribution and release (RedHat 9, fedora core 3, etc)

2) How did you install snort, and where did you grab your install package from?
