Sourcefire VRT Certified Snort Rules Update

Synopsis:
The Sourcefire VRT is aware of vulnerabilities affecting hosts using Microsoft
Excel, CA BrightStor and Kerberos kadmind.

Details:
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-036:
A memory corruption vulnerability exists in the way Microsoft Excel processes
files. The vulnerability is a result of insufficient data validation while
processing the Version field in a BOF record. A remote attacker can exploit
this vulnerability by enticing the target user to open a crafted Excel file,
potentially causing arbitrary code to be injected and executed in the security
context of the current user.

A rule to detect attacks targeting this vulnerability is included in this
release and is identified as SID 12099.

CA BrightStor ARCserve Backup buffer overflow (CVE-2007-0449):
Multiple buffer overflows exist in CA BrightStor ARCserve Backup which may
allow an attacker to execute code on an affected system.

Rules to detect attacks targeting this vulnerability are included in this
release and are identified as SIDs 12078 and 12079.

MIT Kerberos kadmind uninitialized pointer (CVE-2007-2442):
The MIT Kerberos RPC library suffers from a programming error that may allow an
attacker to execute code on a vulnerable system.

A rule to detect attacks targeting this vulnerability is included in this
release and is identified as SID 12075.
