Workstation lockup

Subject: Workstation lockup
Date: Fri, 27 Jan 2006 11:10:22 -0600

We have had several requests from business units recently to relax the
workstation lockup we have in place. The reason is there are several field
people who show DVDs to clients and prospective clients and they are forced to
touch the mousepad every so often to keep the workstation from locking up.
We're running Windows XP on our laptops, and there doesn't appear to be a way
within the OS to allow a user to temporarily extend their timeout value, then
reset it on the next reboot. The only way to change the setting is to push a
security policy out to the laptop allowing the user to set the timeout value,
but it then becomes a permanent change.

Has anyone else run into this type of issue? What resolution (if any) did you
find?
