Position:       Software Engineer
Location:       Rockville, Maryland, United States
Type:           Permanent F/T

Closing Date:   2008-04-04

Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and 
must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Top 
Secret clearance is required. 

Initial six (6) months will consist of a transition period from the incumbent 
staff. During that time, the candidate will perform the following activities: 
1. “Shadow” incumbent staff to understand responsibilities and job 
functions within the data center. 
2. Update physical infrastructure diagrams (including floor plans) as required 
to reflect customer equipment changes. 
3. Create technical documentation, diagrams, procedures and draft policies. 
4. Update technical documentation, diagrams, procedures and policies to reflect 
the current system environment. 
5. Infrastructure Inventory: 
- Install bar-codes on all new and maintain bar-codes on all existing server, 
storage and peripheral equipment 
- Update HW inventory database (i.e. ARGIS and Obtain 24x7) to reflect the 
current environment 
- Develop a SW inventory database and update database to reflect the current 
environment; 

Once the transition period concludes, the candidate will assume the job 
functions of the incumbent and will be directly responsible for installing, 
configuring, and maintaining operating system workstations and servers, 
including web servers, in support of business processing requirements. Will 
also perform software installations and upgrades to operating systems and 
layered software packages. Candidate will schedules installations and upgrades 
and maintains them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures. 
Will also monitors and tune the system to achieve optimum performance levels. 
Ensures workstation/server data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and 
managing appropriate software and hardware solutions. Ensures data/media 
recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database 
archive operations. Supports media management through internal methods and 
procedures or through offsite storage and retrieval services. Develops and 
promotes stand
 ard operating procedures. Conducts routine hardware and software audits of 
workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, 
policies, and configuration guidelines. Develops and maintains a comprehensive 
operating system hardware and software configuration database/library of all 
supporting documentation. 


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Intermediate Windows, Unix (Solaris) and Linux administration experience (1-2 
yrs). Solid written and verbal communication experience is required. 

BA or BS degree preferred but not required.
