Position: Sr. Security Engineer
Location: Alexandria, Virginia, United States
Type: Permanent F/T
Closing Date: 2008-02-16
This is a position in Symantec’s Managed Security Services business
responsible for the global intrusion detection and prevention service delivery
to current customers. This position is one of several engineers working as a
team to continuously improve the collective level of service delivered to our
diverse client base.
No relocation assistance is offered with this position.
Responsibilities
• Lead product engineering efforts including but not limited to developing
documentation, product evaluation, and service integration for new and existing
supported security products
• Perform security device installations
• Perform security device upgrades
• Contribute to and raise the collective expertise and operational
knowledge of IDP platforms and services in the SOC
• Communicate with various internal groups, such as product management,
sales, and business stakeholders
• Support the Global Service Desk by providing Tier 3 support including
escalating to security product vendors to resolve customer issues quickly and
efficiently
• Evaluate workflow and innovate changes to our operational practices in
order to increase overall efficiency
• Train and mentor Global Service Desk Engineers
• Function as a resource for pre- and post-sales engagements with
customers, partners and sales teams
• Onboard new clients and assist with moves, adds and changes to existing
clients
• Interpret client needs and recommend service enhancements that would
benefit our customer base
JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Education: B.A. in the technical field OR equivalent combination of
education, training and work experience.
• Preferred Certifications: CCNA, CCSP, RHCE, CISSP
• 3 to 5 years of related industry experience desired. Preference will be
given to candidates with prior experience in a Managed Security Services
Provider (MSSP) environment, but prior MSSP experience is not a requirement.
• Hands-on experience and expertise designing and implementing technical
security solutions, including IDS/IPS systems. Preference will be given to
candidates that also have experience with one or more firewall platforms, but
this is not a requirement.
• Verifiable experience with implementations and management of one or
more of the following security products: Sourcefire (Intrusion Sensors and
Defense Centers), Snort, ISS SiteProtector and Proventia, Enterasys Dragon,
TippingPoint SMS and UnityOne, Cisco VMS/Security Manager/IDS/IPS, Juniper NSM
and IDP, McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator and Intrushield/Entercept, Symantec
Network Security/Critical System Protection.
