Position: Security Architect

architects apply architectural principles and technology domain expertise to

Safeco defines perimeter security technologies as components of Safeco’s
IT infrastructure that manage, monitor and secure the internal network. (e.g.
firewalls, intrusion detection, etc.) This is a chance to shape information
security at a growth-oriented Fortune 500 company with 7000 employees and a
dynamic array of partnerships and communication channels.
Responsibilities
• Drive the development of technology plans, roadmaps and standards that
address current challenges and long term requirements for the perimeter
security technology domain
• Participate in high priority, strategic IT projects involving
significant architectural impact to the perimeter security domain
• Architect and design technical solutions to address specific initiatives
that have security requirements.
• Drive the evaluation and selection of perimeter security products and
solutions
• Work with the IT Risk Management & Threat Management operations
departments to build technology solutions to satisfy security policy
• Contribute to the development of security standards, procedures and
guidelines across multiple platforms and diverse systems environments
• Collaborate & work well with other architects, analysts and engineers

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications
Architectural Competencies
• Understanding of architectural disciplines, processes and concepts
• Proven ability to lead others to a common technical vision and direction
• Demonstrated ability to establish relationships with business and IT
leaders, as well as technology subject matter experts
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, to both technical and
non-technical audiences
• Demonstrated leadership traits in the following areas- Externally
Focused, Courageous, Innovative, Collaborative, Driven, Accountable
· Strong strategic planning capabilities (approaches and processes,
tools, deliverables)
Technical Competencies
· Deep technical knowledge of perimeter security solutions such as
infrastructure and desktop firewalls, IDS/IPS, Network Behavior Analysis, NAC ,
endpoint security products, proxy servers, vulnerability assessment tools, etc.
· Deep technical knowledge of VPN and encryption related technologies (
PKI , SKIP/FWZ, ISAKMP, PGP, IPSEC, HTTPS, SSL/TLS)
· Strong technical knowledge of enterprise networking technologies
(TCP/IP, Ethernet, WLAN, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, DNS, etc)
· Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and best practices such as
Sox, PCI, HIPAA, ITIL, RUP, and ISO 17799
· Broad understanding across technologies and other architecture domains
· Possess appropriate security certifications (CISSP, CISA, SCNA, SCNP)
Business Competencies
· Basic understanding of property and casualty insurance business
· Ability to establish and maintain relationships with development leads
and other lead technical roles (senior infrastructure SMEs)
Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s Degree or Graduate Degree
· 3-5+ years of perimeter security architecture experience
· Additional 5+ years of related technology experience
