SECURITY ACCREDITATION ENGINEER 
Long term contract 12months to hire
Clearable U.S. Citizens 
VA Hospital Project 

Estimated start date 10-1 

80% Travel to VA Hospitals domestically within the United States. Assessments 
will be made on site and the writing will be done when they return. 

CANDIDATES Local to DC will interview on September 7th in Fairfax or Reston. 

Job Description: 
Selected candidates will be required to perform the following C&A assessment 
steps for visited sites throughout the continental U.S.: 

a. Review site information and prepare for the assessment of the security 
controls in the information system. Preparation for security assessment 
involves assessing the system security planning and supporting materials, 
system requirements and design documentation, security control implementation 
evidence, and results from previous security assessments, security reviews, or 
audits. Preparation also involves developing specific methods and procedures to 
assess the security controls in the targeted information system. 

b. Travel to sites and conduct the assessment of the security controls. The 
candidate shall determine the extent to which the security controls in VA 
information systems are implemented correctly, operating as intended, and 
producing the desired outcome with respect to meeting the security requirements 
for the information system. 

c. Return local or other specified customer facilities and prepare assessment 
reports which document the results of the conducted assessment(s) and make 
recommendations on corrective actions. The developed reports shall include 
assessment results and provide recommendations on corrective actions for 
security control deficiencies and advice to the information system owner and 
authorizing official on how the known vulnerabilities in the system translate 
into agency-level risk.    
  



JOB REQUIREMENTS
---------------------------------------------------
Required Skills: Experience in conducting and coordinating security control 
assessments and completing National Institute of Standards and Technology 
(NIST) related C&A activities. The selected candidate(s) must be familiar with 
NIST 800-37, NIST 800-53 and 800-53A. Candidates must have Four (4) to Eight 
(8) years general experience and two (2) or more years of IA certification & 
Accreditation experience is required. 

Desired Skills: 

- A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, 
Business, or other related scientific or technical discipline is required. 

- CISSP or other professional security 
- Secret Clearance is desired; Will accept VA approved background investigation 
IAW VA Directive 0710 

Required/Desired Education & Certifications: (Master, B.S., MCSE, etc) 

- Documented security related training; 
- One or more technical or security related certifications
