Manager, Information Security Operations  
Job ID 98472(Seattle,WA) 

Reporting to the Director, Information Security and Risk Management, the 
Manager, Information Security Operations leads a team of 3 full-time 
information security engineers as well as various information security 
contractors throughout the year. The position is responsible for planning, 
coordinating, and implementing security operations for information systems in 
order to prevent unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure of 
information. The position will be responsible for the development and 
implementation of security operations tactical and strategic processes 
supporting incident detection, reporting and prevention. The Manager will 
provide leadership and direction to members of the Security Operations team. 
The position will be responsible for the development and integration of 
security operations metrics reports and procedures at will coordinate security 
incident activities. As such, this person will be on-call. 

The responsibility encompasses network and operating system security for both 
production data centers as well as the office desktop network. Span of control 
includes network vulnerability scans, vulnerability management, security review 
of firewall change requests, and review of system logs and IDS events for 
potential security events. This is a hands-on technical management position 
that requires significant technical depth in at least one of the following 
areas: network engineering, Windows system administration, Unix/Linux system 
administration, or database administration. 


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Required Qualifications 

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, 
or related major is required. Graduate coursework is desired. 

Requires 5-15 years of full-time I.T. infrastructure experience in a 
high-availability, enterprise-class web/Internet production environment with 
significant technical depth in at least one of the following areas: network 
engineering, Windows system administration, Unix/Linux system administration, 
or database administration. 3+ years of full-time experience in information 
security is desired. 

Solid knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Linux platforms. 

Solid knowledge of infrastructure design principles, standards, and frameworks 
– COBIT, ITIL, etc. 

Knowledge of network protocols, TCP/IP, Cisco WAN protocols, VPN technologies, 
LDAP technologies. 

Ability to carry out security reviews, vulnerability assessments, and risk 
assessments together with mitigating actions and recommendations. 

The candidate must have very strong project management skills, including 
willingness and initiative to lead designated projects through to completion. 

Exceptional communication skills are a plus. The candidate must project 
confidence in technical discussions and, when necessary, be able to defend his 
or her ideas.

Specific Skills Required 

Knowledge of the following: 

Specific O/S Platforms: Both Windows (2000, 2003, XP) and RedHat are required. 
Solaris 8 and 9 are a plus. 

Infrastructure Technology: Cisco, Checkpoint, F5, RSA/ACE. 

Storage Technology: SAN (StorageWorks) and NAS technologies. 

Web Application Technologies: Apache, IIS, Tomcat, WebSphere. 

Protocols: SSH, SSL, IPSec, LDAP, SNMP, SMTP, NetBios, HTTP. 

Any of the following security certifications are a plus but are not required: 
CISSP, SSCP, or any GIAC certification (such as GCFW, GCUX, GCIA, GCIH, GCIA, 
GCWN). 

Ability to travel. Travel is not expected to exceed 15% domestically. 

The candidate must be able to successfully complete a criminal background 
investigation and a credit history check.
