Position:       Security Engineer
Location:       Austin, Texas, United States
Type:           Permanent F/T

Closing Date:   2007-07-31

Purpose of position  Assist in designing, implementing and monitoring of the 
campus IT security program focusing on identifying campus risks, 
vulnerabilities and improving campus security awareness. Assist in improving 
overall campus security awareness.

Essential functions Assists in coordinating campus wide risk and vulnerability 
assessments of routine to moderate complexity. Assists in developing, 
implementing, and maintaining an ongoing IT security program for the entire 
University, coordinating with various campus entities as needed. Provides 
technical assistance in the selection, configuration, and maintenance of 
security software, utilities and hardware of routine to moderate complexity. 
Assists in the development of technical security standards to support campus 
information security policies. Assists in or facilitates the implementation of 
information security solutions. Tracks resolution of findings and prepares 
reports. Works with other Information Security Office staff members to assist 
in enforcing compliance with security policies, standards and guidelines. 
Studies and keeps current on security issues and reports issues to the 
department personnel responsible for the resource.


JOB REQUIREMENTS
---------------------------------------------------
Required qualifications Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, or related 
field. Three years of experience in assessing information risk and 
vulnerability and developing information security practices to minimize risk 
and/or auditing information security. Knowledge of information security 
practices, procedures, and regulations. Demonstrated technical writing skills. 
Experience implementing security controls within a production database and/or 
web application development environment. Equivalent combination of relevant 
education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred qualifications Three or more years of relevant experience. 
Information security experience in a large, distributed networking environment. 
Experience administering IT in a large, distributed higher education 
environment, the University of Texas at Austin, or another U.T. System peer 
institution. CISSP and/or SANS certification.
