Position: Principal Software Engineer
Location: Buffalo Grove, Illinois, United States
Type: Permanent F/T
Closing Date: 2007-02-24
Provides technical leadership on software development, design, implementation
and testing of building control product systems and processes with a strong
focus on the network security systems (network authentication protocol
including secure remote control, remote user authentication and authorization,
single sign-on encryption). Functions as the technical expert of a project team
and provides for the incorporation of innovative technologies into the
products. Authors and oversees the development documentation including
functional specifications, design specifications and test plans. May function
as a project manager for projects of medium to large scope.
Designs systems and product level solutions including authoring design
documentation, facilitation of design reviews, and partitioning of functional
content. Provides design leadership and expertise on project teams. Typically
involves leading the work of more junior engineers.
Contributes to professional development environment by investigating discipline
best practices'. Defines and establishes development standards. Attends user
group meetings to: provide expertise, to present discipline related topics, and
to learn of development issues and related technical topics. May be involved in
user group improvement efforts.
Facilitates reviews of internal development documentation including functional
and design specifications, test plans and other relevant documentation.
Approves and is responsible for analysis, prioritization, and implementation of
review commentary.
Evaluates and investigates 3rd party products, development tools and processes.
Investigates and selects new technology platforms and development environments.
Provides technical support through vendor to resolve any technical issues and
may author feasibility reports and performance studies.
Develops and communicates a complete understanding of corporate product line
and technologies with an expert knowledge of product functionality and end-user
operations. Actively pursues and communicates new technologies, products, and
innovative practices.
Reports and investigates defects, discovered by project management, by
providing clear descriptions of causal scenarios and impact on product's
quality and performance. Will manage issue through to resolution.
May be involved in project planning, reviews and inspections of project
deliverables, interviewing of team candidates and contribution to performance
evaluations in role as lead project engineer or project manager.
Responsible for the delivery of quality developed system and product level
solutions by implementing product testing (unit, integration, and regulatory
testing). Provides formal results reporting to management.
Mentors lower level engineers on all above duties.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Typically a BS/BA with an Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, or
equivalent related experience preferred.
CISSP is preferred but not required.
Typically eight plus years Software Engineering or other related experience.
Network security protocols (understanding of network authentication and
methodologies; authentication and SSO; knowledge of SSL certificates) required;
familiarity with Kerberos a plus.
Strong Object Oriented Analysis/ Design skills, System level Windows Operating
Environments (NT, 2000, etc.) and Networking (TCP/IP).
Knowledge, Strong Technical Language Design and Implementation Skills (C/ C++,
etc.)
Advanced understanding of development and design methodologies to implement
high quality system and product level solutions.
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and advanced problem solving
skills. Self-motivated and able to work in a team environment.
This position will require up to 50% travel domestically and some
international. The position can be located in either Buffalo Grove (Chicago)
IL or Princeton NJ.
