Application Security Engineer (Patch Manager)

The Patch Manager is responsible for the day-to-day usage of the Systems 
Management Server and Hercules Patch Management infrastructure of an entire 
army installation. This includes handling of all US Army requests for software 
pushes to Windows, Linux\Unix, and Apple\Mac variants workstations.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES & JOB FUNCTIONS:
•  Ensure that the Army Installation meets all applicable DoD and Army 
mandated software lifecycle update requirements and resolving all software 
update requests within Army deadlines.
•  Track the progress of software upgrade suspense activities and provide 
appropriate response to the Army chain of command.
•  Assure continuous system security posture improvement through 
identification and remediation of software vulnerabilities.
•  Create strategies on removing older existing programs effectively.
•  Test the effectiveness and stability of vendor released software 
upgrades and evaluate their impact on mission critical systems. 
•  Perform baseline regression testing after software upgrades.
•  Integrate data into the Army’s Vulnerability Tracking System.
•  Provide technical support of the SMS, WSUS, and other Army mandated 
patch management system, specifically in the area of systems inventory data, 
software life cycle maintenance, and client communication, to various customer 
organizations.
•  Monitor the security life cycle requirements of systems and resolve 
any/all client and patch management server related issues as needed.
•  Manage software package distribution, software package execution 
status, and Information Assurance regulatory compliance reports (or patch 
effort) when required or as requested.
•  Utilize remote utilities, scripts, and other provided tools to 
identify, isolate, and resolve all client related distribution errors.
•  Assist government officials in enforcing Army Information Assurance 
policies with regard to mandatory software lifecycle vulnerabilities



JOB REQUIREMENTS
---------------------------------------------------
•  Must be US Citizen
•   Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance and to pass 
background Check.
•  Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or 
Math.
•  Four years Information Security/Patch Management experience.
•  Proficient and experienced with Microsoft Systems Management Server 
(SMS)  and Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) 
•  Experience with SQL Server 2000, and Oracle
•  Understanding of Computer Network Concepts
•  Proficiency in one or more of the following programming languages:  Kix 
Start Scripting, Native Windows OS Batch Scripting, Windows Host Scripting, VB 
Scripting, Perl Scripting, and various Unix\Linux shell scripting.
•   Able to interpret and understand vulnerability assessment technologies.
•  Technical Writing:  Must be able to communicate a complicated technical 
subject matter to an audience with no technical background.
•  Strong inter-personal, communication, and organizational skills.
