Position:       Sr. Security Engineer
Location:       Lincoln, Nebraska, United States
Type:           Permanent F/T

Closing Date:   2007-01-15

This position contributes to the University’s success by ensuring the 
protection of information and information resources. This position provides 
day-to-day security consulting by conducting in-depth technical security 
reviews, risk assessments, and documenting recommendations for risk mitigation; 
providing guidance to system owners in the development and technical review of 
information security plans; developing University-wide security policy and 
guidelines; and providing technical guidance to information owners, other 
campus security officers, and colleagues.

Responsibilities include:
Research, evaluate, recommend, and implement information security solutions, 
standards, policies and procedures that protect University of Nebraska 
information assets.

Identify University of Nebraska-wide information security needs and 
collaborates with campuses and University partners to develop and implement 
technical solutions for information security.

Conducts security risk assessments of hardware, software and installed systems 
and networks. Audits systems, event logs, and processes to ensure compliance 
with federal statutes, state laws, and University policies & procedures.

Assist in the development of appropriate information security incident response 
policies/procedures, develop internal cyber forensic expertise, and work with 
campus information technology, information security, general counsel, student 
and academic affairs, and campus security personnel to protect University 
computer assets and identify violators,

Participates in the development and maintenance of University-wide information 
security policy, standards and procedures for multiple platforms and diverse 
system environments.

Other duties as assigned and as needed


JOB REQUIREMENTS
---------------------------------------------------
Requires experience with some of the following: firewalls, IDS, IPS, VPNs, 
TCP/IP protocols, virus protection, anti-spyware, data-in-transit encryption, 
data-at-rest encryption, Windows Server 200x, Active Directory, RACF, MVS, TSO, 
ABAP, Lotus Notes administration, NESSUS, nmap, vulnerability scanning, output 
management, application security, cyber forensics and information security 
policy development.

LEVEL OF EDUCATION, YEARS & TYPE OF EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited two-year or four-year college or university with 
a degree in business or information systems with two or more years of 
professional related experience in information security. Some systems and 
information security troubleshooting experience preferred.

Development and delivery of technical, information security concepts to 
technical and non-technical partners through training and awareness programs.
Business application technical design & analysis
Progressive experience in information security
Knowledge of information security "best practices", such as ISO/IEC 17799 and 
ISF The Standard of Good Practice for Information Security.
Equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the 
required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
