The Role
Technical Security Specialist required with several years experience,
preferably inside a large-scale, project-based enterprise environment, to
provide technical security advice and requirements to internal projects and
influence design policy and strategy.
This is a hands-off role that requires a strong understanding of the underlying
technologies and the implications upon security. Specific knowledge of
particular vendor’s products is not essential.
This role requires a solid understanding of secure network design,
multi-layered security within the OSI model and logically securing shared
physical infrastructures. Suitable candidates must possess excellent
communication skills and be able to influence key stakeholders and project
teams, ensuring that required measures are implemented.
Technical Skills required
Mandatory: -
• Excellent communications skills, able to influence stakeholders and
debate the merits of alternative technical solutions.
• Experience of operating in a similar role within a large-scale and
project-based environment.
• In depth understanding of firewall technologies, network security and
design and the OSI model.
• Solid understanding of securing Internet-facing environments,
multi-layered security models, application-level security issues (HTTP, SQL).
• Solid understanding of logically securing shared infrastructure
environments – MPLS/VLAN segregation, Virtual Servers, Virtual Firewalls.
• Solid understanding of application level security - authentication and
authorisation, application layer attacks, common protocols used.
• Ability to clearly define security requirements and to identify and
document new security policies and standards as required.
Desirable:
• Experience within both an internal security department and an external
security consultancy.
• Understanding of risk assessment methodologies.
• Vendor-specific capabilities of Cyberguard, Checkpoint, Cisco, F5
BIG-IP & ISS IDS.
• Certificates within the context of SSL, PKI and VPNs. Strong Key
Management techniques
• Knowledge of Enterprise Patch Management and Security Management
products.
• Experience with NT4, 2003, Solaris and HP-UX.
Person Profile:
• Security Consultant or Architect
• Excelllent communication and interpersonal skills
• Solid experience within client facing environments
• Knowledge of identifiying functional and non-functional requirements.
