The Data Security Engineer develops and implements solutions to protect 
enterprise information assets from intentional or accidental destruction, 
access and modification while minimizing the impact upon those who need 
legitimate access to the data. The Data Security Engineer is an expert in data 
security practices, procedures and systems deployed within the enterprise 
environment as well as industry best practices. The Data Security Engineer 
leads efforts to determine business requirements for security and develops 
strategies, solutions and protocols to meet those requirements. The Data 
Security Engineer also creates and deploys a global security framework (e.g. 
Network, O/S, database and application security). Finally, the Data Security 
Engineer develops and presents security solutions to customers, including all 
levels of management.
•  Evaluates existing controls and manages the implementation of 
additional controls to ensure a layering of data protection which provides 
threat prevention, detection, mitigation and recovery.
•  Assesses high-risk scenarios to the  enterprise and works with business 
and IT personnel to identify specific high-exposure events and conditions which 
could occur at various points in our business systems lifecycle.
•  Develops and monitors practices to ensure that all systems and 
proprietary information are secure from unauthorized access and protected from 
inappropriate alteration/modification. 
•  Analyzes log files, investigates and reports on noted irregularities 
and advises management on appropriate software solutions to secure facilities 
and data.
•  Participates in all disaster recovery planning activities and deploys 
needed hardware, software and recovery tools, protocols and procedures.
•  Ensures that the security procedures comply with all external and 
internal regulatory and audit compliance requirements.



JOB REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:

•  BS or BA degree, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent 
education, training or work experience required. 
•  Five years or more of network and data security experience required.
•  Strong knowledge of multiple databases, data network architectures, 
programming languages and operating systems (i.e., Windows OS 2003, Active 
Directory, Web Services, SQL Server 2005, TCP/IP, Cisco IOS, Cisco PIX, 
Checkpoint FW1).
•  Expert knowledge of Internet and intranet technologies.
•  Expert knowledge of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS).
•  Expert knowledge of vulnerability analysis tools.
•  Strong knowledge of Logging Systems.
•  Professional Certifications (CCNP, CCSP, CCDP, CCIP, GIAC, SSCP, etc.) 
helpful.
•  Good understanding of encryption.
•  Experience in Reinsurance/ Insurance industry IT department is helpful.
•  Must have demonstrated skills and successes working closely with 
different groups of highly technical staff. 
•  Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential. 
•  Strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills.
•  Technical writing, training and presentation skills a strong plus.
