The Channel Support Pre-Sales Engineer will work with the sales team in a pre-sales role to develop and position solutions involving products. Presentations and conference call discussions are a critical part of this position. During the qualifying process, confirm that products meet the prospect's requirements and assist sales in technical qualification. Throughout the proposal process, articulate and demonstrate solutions, influence customer's technical requirements, and position products relative to competition. Our client, a leading provider of STORAGE software solutions, is currently searching for a Systems Engineer (SE) who will assist in providing pre-sales technical support for Enterprise account customers in the Midwest/Chicagoland region. The primary role of the SE is to assist the account representatives in all technical aspects of the sales cycle, including technology and product presentations, demonstrations, product evaluations, as well as analysis, determination and sizing of final configuration. The SE also plays an important role in establishing, developing and maintaining the technical relationship to the customer, in close concert with the account rep. Activities include: customer calls, presentations, technical discussions and demonstrations, managing the software evaluation process, working together with sales to develop the technical relationship with the customer, completing RFP's and RFI's, coordinating technical support and services requests, attending and conducting internal seminars, assisting in the maintenance and development of internal demonstration tools, as well as trade show support. JOB REQUIREMENTS --------------------------------------------------- Required Skills At least three (3) years of pre-sales Systems Engineering experience (or equivalent) and at least three (3) years of UNIX and enterprise-level Windows200x systems administration or consulting experience. Technical experience with Data Backup, Replication and High Availability solutions a must. Strong working knowledge of UNIX (Solaris, AIX, Linux), Windows NT/2000 and related applications (Oracle, Web, Exchange, SQL). Working knowledge of current UNIX and x86 hardware platforms, including STORAGE peripherals such as Sun, IBM, EMC, Hitachi, ADIC, ATL, STK, Brocade, McData and other SAN components. At least a four (4) year professional degree in a related field (Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics) or equivalent experience. Strong analytical and presentation skills, current market knowledge and excellent customer service skills are a must. The candidate must be willing and able to travel throughout the Northeast region. Desired Skills The desired candidate for this position will have field experience either working as a Reseller SE, Software Vendor SE or a consultant. Shell, batch and C programming experience a plus. Hardware deployment and project management experience a plus. The candidate should also have excellent written and verbal communication skills. The Senior System Engineer must have an in-depth knowledge of two of the following Operating Systems: UNIX, NT, Netware or Windows 2000. The engineer must work towards attaining knowledge of the other Operating Systems. The Channel Support Pre-Sales Engineer must obtain a working knowledge of all products. Must be able to install and demonstrate all products with a particular focus on the product set defined by their manager.
