The Role
Background
•  This role is working within the company, part of the Group responsible 
for development and operation of the systems that support the group’s 
current and future business models – the provision of electronic real-time 
settlement for a diverse range of financial instruments for both cross-border 
and domestic markets within the European countries that the group operates.
•  The Group has clients in over 80 countries, and last year settled 
transactions with a value of over Eur238 trillion. This ambitious Group is in 
an exciting stage of development as it progresses towards its ultimate 
objective of developing a domestic market for Europe that will not only 
revolutionise the settlement infrastructure in Europe, but also transform the 
European capital markets.  
•  The position available is within the Legacy Roadmap and Development 
Services (LRDS) division operating in London who requires a motivated 
self-starter to assist the division in delivering a broad range of change 
thereby providing it’s customers with continual improvements. At the heart 
of the financial services industry, this role will give the successful

Job details
Title and reporting structure
        The position title is Project Leader.  The position reports to 
the Release Manager responsible for delivering changes relating to Corporate 
Technology and Group projects within the UK Roadmap team, a team comprising of 
7 Project Leaders.
Location
        The post is based at Cannon Street, London , but it is 
envisaged that the role will involve management of Group-wide initiatives, or 
local derived projects, involving various Group-wide departments (for 
requirements, delivery or implementation), which will require flexibility in 
terms of time spent at various Group locations.      
Working Hours
        Core working hours are 09:00 – 17:00. However, to be 
effective in the role, the jobholder should anticipate and will be expected to 
work outside this core as necessary and with little notice. 
Position Summary
        The Project Leader will plan, track and deliver projects as 
designated. In doing so, they will make extensive use of related managed teams 
within departments. Their responsibility includes production of a range of 
reporting and management controls as per Group standards (and/or as designated 
otherwise). 
        The Project Leader will also be involved in pre-project work 
leading to proposals being submitted to the Roadmap Prioritisation Committee 
(RPC) who need to approve project expenditure (beyond a certain level) before 
the project proceeds.
        The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of Technical 
infrastructure projects which are at various stages within the project 
lifecycle. It is essential that the candidate has a background in Networks and 
Information Security Management as an understanding of the technical issues and 
risks to infrastructural projects is needed. The candidate needs to be able to 
liaise with and co-ordinate the technical teams.  Several of the projects about 
to commence are security improvements projects so a basic understanding of 
Information Security needs to be demonstrated e.g. having a basic qualification 
such as CISSP
Key Tasks / Accountabilities
        Ownership of the project plans for work allocated and for 
reporting against baseline. 
        Facilitating the set-up of projects; business case, 
organisation, time, budget, function
        Monitoring and tracking project deliveries; both internal or 
from an external agency.
        Resolving and closing down of project issues.
        Highlighting and proposing mitigating actions to risks.
        Ensuring a consistent approach to quality in projects.
        Facilitating change.
        Assisting on intra-departmental matters as required.
        Representative of the assigned department at cross departmental 
or group, programme forums or meetings as necessary.
        Working closely with other members of the Programme 
Management/Project Team and with Corporate Technology to ensure the overall 
programme plan is delivered in an optimum manner for the benefit of the 
Divisional management.
        The role may involve some travel to entities within the Group 
        Working with 3rd party software / hardware vendors
        Understanding of the Procurement process

Other Desirable Characteristics
•  Structured Project Management qualified – e.g. Prince2.
