Intermediate Network Administrator
Job Description
You will be working with a highly motivated, highly skilled team of systems
and network administrators to provide critical infrastructure support at
Transmeta in Santa Clara. We have an opening for an intermediate network
administrator who uses intelligence and creativity to solve challenging
problems. It's an exciting environment with lots of room to develop your
skills, work with cutting-edge technology, and interact with some of the best
minds in the business. While we're not looking for mastery of every item
listed below, you must have the ability and willingness to learn those you
don't already know.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Responsibilities
Network Administration
* Manage our enterprise campus networks on Foundry routers running
OSPF and DVMRP for maximum stability and performance
* Work with open-source security products like snort, sguil, iptables,
and others to ensure the integrity of the internal networks,
firewalls, and DMZ hosts
* Organize, maintain, and keep current the infrastructure that supports
the network environment: monitoring and alerting, bandwidth use, and
automated configuration/firmware updates
* Collaborate with the MIS team and internal customers to design and
implement future upgrades and improvements to the network
Systems Administration and OS Support
* Troubleshoot user problems with VPN clients, wireless networks,
email/internet apps, and the myriad other components of a modern
enterprise infrastructure
* Help deploy Linux and Windows workstations and infrastructure servers
Problem-Solving Ability
* Track down distributed-systems problems from network to application
to kernel to hardware
* Work with open-source, commercial, and homebrew apps and scripts as
the situation requires
* Tune and optimize performance problems through finding and thoroughly
understanding root causes
Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills
* Create and maintain documentation
* Work with team members and customers to design solutions and solve
problems
* Exhibit an excellent customer-focused attitude
* Balance the demands of user support against project timelines
Education / Experience
* CCNP and/or contributions to open-source projects in the fields of
Networking, Security, or Systems Administration
* BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent
work experience
* More than two years previous network administration experience in a
mixed-OS environment
* Demonstrable programming/scripting ability in shell, C, or your
favorite interpreted language (perl, python or ruby)
