Position:       Security Engineer
Location:       Providence, Rhode Island, United States
Type:           Permanent P/T

Provide third level technical support for VeriSign's Managed Security Services. 
This involves identifying customer issues, troubleshooting, determining root 
cause, and coordinating resolution using a variety of applications and testing 
tools. These events can include hardware/software failures as well as security 
breaches and threats. Security Engineer II will be placed in an on-call 
rotation, responsible for providing support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

- Develop new tools and procedures used to improve the quality of service for 
VeriSign's customers and Security Operations Center.

- Quality assurance and approval of all new products and services introduced 
into VeriSign's Security Operations Center.

- Develop and provide documentation and training for new products and services 
introduced into VeriSign's Security Operations Center.

- Provide presentations for current and potential customers. May include travel.

- Interface with external operations groups such as Product Management, 
Provisioning, Engineering, and IT to complete projects and new procedures. 
 
 
Experience - External: 
- 4 to 5 years experience with a strong knowledge of firewall applications such 
as CheckPoint, Netscreen, Sidewinder and Cisco PIX or strong knowledge of 
intrusion detection devices such as Snort, Secure Net Pro, Manhunt, Sourcefire, 
and Real Secure.

- Strong knowledge and experience with PC's, LAN topologies (Both Ethernet and 
Token Ring), routers, hubs, terminal servers.

- Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills

- Experience writing technical specifications for new development projects.

- Ability to think strategically and define clear execution plans.

- Ability to work weekends and late nights based on client demand.

- Strong knowledge and application of VPN technology as it relates to the above 
devices.

- Understands the operation of test and analysis equipment such as protocol 
analyzer, LAN/WAN sniffers, etc.

- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills including the resolution of 
customer escalations.

- Extensive knowledge of Unix Operating Systems

- Strong background in network security management and internet firewalls.

- Experience in script writing and programming in a variety of languages and 
programs.

- Understanding of process management and customer service processes and 
issues.

as well as strong organizational and technical writing skills. They must have a 
well-rounded security background and are responsible for devoloping and 
maintaining tools, procedures, documentation and training programs for

escalation within the SOC responsible for troubleshooting and anaylizing the 
most complex customer issues and security threats.
