Position: Security Consultant
Location: Walnut Creek, California, United States
Type: Permanent F/T
Closing Date: 2006-03-13
The Information Security Consultant provides technical direction regarding all
aspects of information security at PMI. The incumbent conducts reviews and
assessments to ensure company compliance with security regulations, making
recommendations to management regarding new solutions to meet information
security objectives. He/She works independently under general guidelines and
defined objectives.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Conducts technical security reviews. Plans security assessment/review
projects & processes. Determines methods and techniques to use, (such as
application penetration testing, spot checking of code, etc.,) to complete a
thorough review, obtaining and reviewing all necessary information.
2. Performs ongoing compliance validation and assessments. Ensures that
company business systems are in compliance with information security
regulations and/or special customer-related security requirements. Prepares
findings and makes recommendations to management to achieve and maintain
compliance.
3. Assists with security audits and assessments. Works with internal and
external auditors or certain PMI customers to understand the information needed
and determine most efficient method of obtaining and providing the information.
Assists in identifying areas of vulnerability or risk.
4. Performs IT security incident resolution. Analyzes suspected security
incidents to determine severity of impact and appropriate action to take to
mitigate the exposure.
5. Assesses and manages security related policies and assists in their
development. Ensures security guidelines & requirements are being followed, by
enforcing policies and procedures.
6. Assesses, manages & deploys security related technologies. Completes
research and assessment of available technologies that will help PMI achieve
short and long term information security objectives. Prepares and delivers
recommendations to management.
7. Keeps abreast of changes to information security regulations/requirements.
Regulations usually provided by the Legal department. Reviews the requirements
and determines whether PMI is in compliance and/or what is needed to be in
compliance.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge & Skills:
1. Strong understanding of application/information security issues, methods,
techniques and best practices.
2. Knowledgeable in conducting security & vulnerability assessments, reviews &
audits.
3. Thorough understanding of Windows, Unix and Layer 3 devices.
4. Good communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
5. Familiar with key security and privacy legislation and standards.
6. Demonstrated ability to identify and respond to security incidents.
7. Good analytical and problem solving skills.
Education & Experience:
Required knowledge and skills would typically be acquired through a Bachelors
degree (or equivalent experience in lieu of), 5 to 7 years of related IT
experience and a recognized security certification such as CISSP or GSEC.
Approximately, 3 years in information security would be required.
