Senior Network Security Analyst

The CERT® Coordination Center (CERT/CC) in Pittsburgh, PA is a center of 
Internet security expertise, located at the Software Engineering Institute, a 
federally funded research and development center operated by Carnegie Mellon 
University and sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense and part of a joint 
effort with the Department of Homeland Security's National Cyber Security 
Division.  The Network Situational Awareness Group (NetSA) focuses on 
quantitative studies of potentially malicious activities on large-scale 
computer networks. 

CERT is in search of a Senior Network Security Analyst to serve as technical 
lead for the overall design, execution, and documentation of cutting-edge 
analysis techniques for operational use in high-impact environments.  This is 
an exciting opportunity to liaison with customers, potential customers, 
vendors, and the Internet community as a whole. 





JOB REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications are a BS in Computer Science or scientific/technical field with 
10 years experience (or an MS with 8 years experience) in network security 
research and/or operations.  Requirement also include C or Java, and Perl or 
Python development experience on the Unix or Windows platform with the ability 
to apply sound software engineering practices, API and schema design experience 
with RDBMS, experience with various Internet protocols, deep knowledge of at 
least one modern operating system, understanding of network, database and 
application security issues, user or implementation level experience with a 
subset of the following technologies: IDS, IPS, SIM/SEM, network mapping, 
vulnerability scanners, firewalls, and routers.  Applicants should have a 
record of significant contribution to the security community, such as academic 
publication or involvement in open source security tool projects as well as the 
ability to set strategic direction and agenda for a diverse group 
 of developers and researchers.  The ability to work both independently and 
with teams is required.  Strong planning, organizational, problem solving, oral 
and written communication skills are a must.  Experience with mathematical 
programming systems and statistics is expected.  GIAC certification a plus.

Candidates must be able to pass a background investigation, obtain a security 
clearance, and be a US citizen.
