JOB DESCRIPTION
---------------------------------------------------
Position: Quality Assurance
Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Type: Permanent F/T

Closing Date: 2005-12-15

LEAD QUALITY ASSURANCE ENGINEER

We have an immediate opening for a Lead Quality Assurance Engineer to work in
our industry leading, network-based Vulnerability and Exposure Research Team
(VERT).

This is not a traditional Quality Assurance position; our environment is
ever-changing and our QA Engineers will work closely with the Vulnerability
Research Engineers in ensuring quality and discovering and solving problems.

You have experience in a Team Lead position and have a passion for excellence
in Quality Assurance, organization and process creation/management. You are
the type of leader who enjoys the “hands on” work as much as the
organization and management of a team.

All our Engineers come from a variety of backgrounds that are not limited
strictly to software QA: these include programming, penetration testing, and
network and systems administration. The common denominator is an overwhelming
passion for detecting difficult to diagnose problems in network traffic and
interactions of that traffic with end hosts.

You must be able to fit into our intelligent, high energy, work-hard/play-hard
environment where rapid response and quick thinking are required to execute on
content development for a quickly developing threat environment.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
• Day to day co-ordination of the QA team members.
• Responsible for the scheduling and testing of upcoming releases.
• Develop and refine QA process applicable to the VERT environment.
• Coordinate projects with the VERT Manager and Engineers
• Mentor and promote the growth of the QA team

JOB REQUIREMENTS
---------------------------------------------------
REQUIREMENTS:
• Prior experience as a Team lead or Manager.
• A Quality Assurance mindset is vital to success in this role. You are
the type of engineer who looks at the world with a critical eye and detects
problems in what others have created.
• Four+ years experience as one of:
         -Software QA Engineer
         -Security engineer or penetration tester
         -System/Network Administrator
• Ability to learn new protocols, languages, and architectures quickly,
and to apply that knowledge to network traffic “on the wire”.
• Deep understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP and other Internet protocols.
• The ability to follow, create and enhance mature QA processes
• The ability to work as an exploratory tester (i.e. the ability to test
without a well-defined process)
• Proficiency with analysis methodologies and research techniques
• College or university degree in Computer Science or IT-related
disciplines, or equivalent work experience

DESIRED SKILLS:
• Intimate knowledge of computer operating systems. In particular,
significant understanding of one of the following families:
•  Solaris, Linux, BSD, and other Unix-based systems;
• Windows family of operating systems especially Windows NT/2000/XP/2003.
• Experience with computer and network security standards. Professional
certification such as GIAC, MCSE, CCNA/CCNP not required, but recommended.
• Some knowledge of security vulnerability exploit code, as well as an
ability to understand and reverse-engineer code to exploit classes of attacks
such as buffer overflows, format string attacks, and integer overflows.
• Knowledge of intrusion detection filters, signature definitions, and
vulnerability scripting languages such as NASL and OVAL.
• Understanding of operating system fingerprinting techniques.
• Understanding of networking concepts such as: routing protocols,
switching standards, firewall rules, network address translation (NAT), CIDR,
BPF and other packet filtering technologies.
