RESPONSIBILITIES:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Staff Systems Operations Specialist works as part of a team responsible for 
planning and executing the integration of Internet based products and services 
for ABC.com, ABCNEWS.com, ABC OTV, ABC Television, Movies.com, Disney Magic 
Connection, Main Street Cinema and Flik (collectively “the supported 
business units”) and into a complex data center and network environment in 
an efficient, secure, scalable, reliable and cost effective manner.

Primary responsibilities include evaluation, implementation and support for 
Internet based solutions developed for these business units. This includes any 
content delivery systems, hardware configuration, custom software 
implementation, database administration, network and systems design, 
performance and process improvement, and systems documentation.

This position is also responsible for planning and executing small-to-medium 
scale projects within the Technical Operations team.  Typical projects would 
include new business unit initiatives and updates to existing products and 
services that require planning, incredible attention to detail, and flawless 
execution.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION

·         Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or 
related field preferred; or a corresponding number of years experience in 
technical operations or software engineering.

·         Strong knowledge of current techniques and capabilities of 
enterprise data center operations.  Must have experience in deploying and 
maintaining large scale server, database, and network environments.

·         Proven experience managing complex technical projects from 
inception to completion.

·         Proven ability to work with all members of a project team, 
including business leaders, technical leaders, software engineers, and system 
administrators.

·         Strong technical expertise in several platforms and systems at 
the enterprise level.

·         Must be extremely organized and capable of tracking, managing, 
and resolving many issues simultaneously.
SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED

·         Superior judgment, problem resolution, team building, 
negotiation, budgeting, and decision-making skills as well as the ability to 
work under continual deadline pressure.

·         Advanced technical skills, with an emphasis on Internet 
technologies:

o        Expertise in system administration, configuration, troubleshooting, 
performance tuning, preventative maintenance, and security procedures for 
Windows server operating systems and Unix-based operating systems;

o        Expertise with web and application servers, including administration, 
configuration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, preventative maintenance, 
and security procedures;

o        Experience with and understanding of Internet standards such as DNS, 
FTP, SSH, HTML, XML, JDBC, SNMP and other protocols;

o        Understanding of IP communication and packet structure;

o        Understanding of Networking including load balancing equipment, 
switches, routers, and general troubleshooting;

o        Expertise with hardware systems support, RAID and disk subsystems, 
cluster management, troubleshooting, and hardware replacement;

o        Expertise in use of monitoring and troubleshooting utilities to 
effectively diagnose problems

·         Superb written and verbal communications skills.

·         7 or more years of experience developing and supporting 
software-based products or services, with an emphasis on Internet-based 
products and services.
