Position: Security Engineer
Location: Santa Barbara, California, United States
Type: Permanent F/T
Closing Date: 2005-07-16
The System Administrator's role is to ensure the stable operation of the
production computer software systems and network connections. This includes
planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and
optimizing all network software and communication links. The person will also
provide technical guidance to team members involved in the analysis and
resolution of end user software program and connectivity issues in a timely and
accurate fashion, and provide end user training and documentation where
required.
Support functions include systems monitoring, problem resolution, project
support, participation in on call escalation and administrative functions.
This person will participate in troubleshooting on complex issues. Candidate is
expected to support everything from the hardware through applications in a
24x7x365 production environment, as well as several staging, development and
test environments.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

- 30% Monitor and maintain production and production support
infrastructure (System Administration)
- 30% Ownership of internal monitoring infrastructure application
(including design and programming)
- 25% Linux, Free BSD and Sun OS support including patching,
installation/setup and performance tuning
- Perl, Shell and SQL programming
- 15% Develop implement and maintain policies, procedures and manuals
Work in a team-oriented, collaborative style
- Network asset management, including maintenance of network component
inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information
- Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements, upgrades,
and/or purchases.
- Miscellaneous duties as requested by the management staff.
- Perform network and security audits
Knowladge and Skills
- Required: Working knowledge of web technology e.g. (Resin, Apache,
J2EE)
- Required: Working knowledge of the LAN/WAN technologies
- Required: Experienced in monitoring networks utilizing common Unix
system tools
- Required: 5+ years of Perl, SQL and Shell programming experience
- Required: Keen attention to detail w/proven analytical and
problem-solving abilities
- Required: 5+ years of experience with Linux Free BDS, Sun and Win2K /XP
operating systems
- Preferred: Knowledge of enterprise backup systems
- Preferred: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, well
organized
- Preferred: Highly self motivated and directed
- Preferred: proficiency in network management tools
- Must be able to lift 75 lbs over head.
- Some travel required
