Position: Sr. Security Engineer
Location: Denver, Colorado, United States
Type: Permanent F/T
Closing Date: 2005-07-01
SUMMARY
The Sr. Engineer, System Security provides a forward looking view for where
Broadband Access security needs to be in 3-5 yrs. This involves being
responsible for specifying security mechanisms for the DOCSIS (Data Over Cable
Services Interface Specifications = high speed data) and CableHome (managed
residential gateway) projects within the
Broadband Access department.
Functions
This position serves as an individual contributor, advisor, and project leader
for the security aspects of the DOCSIS and CableHome projects as well as future
security projects within the Broadband Access department. Responsibilities
include:
• conceptual development of responses to present and potential security
threats
• project management of security projects
• writing specifications for security projects
• implementation of security projects
• dissemination of conclusions from research into security issues
• participation in security standards activities
• presenting on security issues of interest to the cable industry
• participation in relevant security projects in support of other Company
on-going and ad-hoc activities
• working with Company internal Security Team and the other security
experts to solve cross-platform issues, in particular those that relate to IP
platforms
• coordinating activities with other internal security personnel
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Strong theoretical knowledge of network security architectures is required.
Demonstrated knowledge of current fundamental security technologies is
required.
This position requires a strong self-starter that is a fast learner in the
areas of protocols and network related technologies.
The position requires strong communication skills, including the ability to
explain complex technical material in simple terms.
Required technology competencies include:
• Digital Rights Management (conditional access, copy protection,
cryptography, block cipher, Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG),
digital video broadcasting (DVB), personal video recorders (PVRs), media
centers, key management)
• Cryptography
• RSA
• DES (Data Encryption Standard)
• AES (Advanced Encryption Standard)
• TLS (Transport Layer Security)
• Firewalls
Desired technology competencies include:
• PKI (Public Key Infrastructure)
• Kerberos
• IPSec
• VPN (Virtual Private Networks)
• BPI+ (Baseline Privacy Interface)
A strong aptitude for mathematics, to properly analyze emerging encryption and
authentication algorithms in light of theft of service, denial of service, and
media privacy scenarios, is desired.
Working knowledge of cable systems architecture, operations, and administration
is desired.

REPORTS TO
Director of Specifications and Architecture, Broadband Access
QUALIFICATIONS
An educational background in computer science, telecommunications or data
networking architectures is required. BSCS/BSEE required. MSCE/MSEE
preferred.
5+ years experience in the security field is required.
Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) certificate is a
plus.
Exposure to a wide range of security issues through consulting is a plus.
Previous experience writing specifications is a plus
Systems engineering experience is a plus.
