Director of PR
Are you a seasoned PR professional who is bored with the routine and is ready
to take on only the biggest PR challenges? The Security Business & Technology
Unit (SBTU) is tackling some of the most important issues facing Microsoft and
the software industry today. We are looking for an experienced PR manager to
manage a team responsible for the press relations strategy with industry and
business press and the analyst relations strategy with influentials for
Microsoft’s security products and initiatives. You will work with product
managers, executives, partners, and others inside and outside of Microsoft and
you will play a critical role on a diverse and seasoned team with great
perspective and a wonderful shared sense of humor.
In this position, you will be responsible for a $5+ million budget and will be
responsible for managing the interface with our PR agency, Waggener Edstrom.
Your team owns the overall security news and analyst relations plans including
the corporate security image and coverage of the recently acquired Windows
AntiSpyware technology and Sybari’s anti-virus and anti-spam products as
well as the more established Microsoft products, Internet Security &
Acceleration Server and Windows Rights Management Services. You will work
closely with the broader Microsoft PR teams and the PR agency to ensure the
development of effective strategies and good execution on supporting tactics.
Collaboration is an essential part of the job, and you will need to effectively
work with teams across the company including major Business Groups, Segment
Marketing teams, Corporate PR, LCA and others to drive strong cooperative
efforts around security PR. You will act as a spokesperson for SBTU repr
esenting Microsoft in press interviews and analyst and press tours. Creativity
in all activities is paramount.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate will have at least 7-10 years of communications and/or
product marketing experience coupled with a deep understanding of media
relations and success in dealing with complex strategic marketing issues.
Additionally, the candidate should have experience in prioritization and the
skill to manage a team to a set of shared commitments. The ability to
collaborate with multiple stakeholders and to work effectively with executives
is critical. Proven leadership, a track record of results, spokesperson
experience, and the ability to apply your originality and robust problem
solving skills in a dynamic working environment are also essential.
