Position:       Sr. Security Engineer
Location:       Norfolk, Virginia, US

Position is for a Computer Network Defense Engineer for the US Joint Forces 
Command in Norfolk, VA.  This position requires a FINAL and ACTIVE TOP SECRET 
US Government security clearance at time of job commencement.

The CND Engineer will provide highly technical expertise in the use of 
Information Technology (IT) Information Assurance (IA) tools to implement 
Computer Network Defense capabilities. Evaluates and recommends courses of 
action(s) in regard from computer network vulnerabilities, events, and 
incidents. Specific duties include: 

· Understanding of the OSI model, with an emphasis on TCP/IP is 
essential. Must have experience with packet analysis tools such as tcpdump, 
Sniffer Pro, and ethereal with the ability to understand and decode at the 
packet level. 
· Represent USJFCOM CND in the DoD Ports, Protocols, and Services (PPS) 
Technical Assessment Group (TAG). Research and perform technical and 
vulnerability assessments on PPS. Participate in monthly TAG meetings and cast 
the USJFCOM vote for the security assessment on each PPS being evaluated. 
· Conduct network and packet analysis in support of ever-evolving 
firewall and ids policies. 
· Ensure protection of USJFCOM networks, systems, and applications by 
technical enforcement of DoD and organizational security policies, and 
detection, management, and reporting of information assurance events. 
· Responsible for development, maintenance, and update of USJFCOM’s 
Computer Network Defense Common Operating Picture (CND COP), comprised of 
firewall, intrusion detection systems, vulnerability, and other data both 
internal and external systems and networks. 
· Configure and operate intrusion detection systems, review logs from 
firewalls and other boundary protection devices, and assist with security 
vulnerability assessments. 
· Work closely with network management and CND Cell to employ managed 
and unmanaged sensors to develop and maintain a baseline of normal system, 
network and application activity, provide trend analysis, and identify 
anomalous trends or events. 
· Provide training to watch standers on use and interpretation of CND 
COP, 
intrusion detection systems, firewalls and other boundary protection 
devices, and any other products used in creation of CND COP. 
· Notify GCCC watch officers of anomalous trends or events, recommend 
and 
assist with response and notification actions, and help translate these into 
customer impact. 
· Interface with DISA and other external agencies to enhance shared 
understanding of the CND COP and provide 24-hour on-call response in support of 
GCCC operations as required. 



JOB REQUIREMENTS

Mandatory skills: 
This position requires a minimum of 6 years experience in Information Assurance 
(IA) functional and data requirement analysis, systems analysis and design, and 
documentation preparation. Of the six years general experience, a minimum of 
three years specialized is required in the following: 
· Expert knowledge of TCP/IP, specifically Ports, Protocols, and 
Services. 
· Intrusion Detection system analysis and configuration 
· The use of common Information Assurance software applications such as 
vulnerability scanners, packet analyzers, virus scanners, and port monitors 
· Network Information Assurance architecture design and implementation 
· Core Internet protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, BGP, DNS, SMTP, etc.) 
· Incident Response Team management 
. CISSP 
. Must be US citizen 

Desirable skills include: 
. Experience as a member of Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT) or Computer 
Emergency Response Team (CERT). 
. DoD Information Technology mid-level management experience.
