Position:       Security Product Manager
Location:       San Francisco - Bay Area, California, US

My client, a leading provider of Security Information Management (SIM) products 
and solutions, is looking for a the Product Manager to develop and manage a 
high quality product life cycle process for their products.

They have a history of delivering high performance products that scale to 
handle large
enterprise security log management and real time event correlation requirements.


JOB REQUIREMENTS

*Key Objectives*

• Assure that products developed align with the company’s vision and 
are commercially accepted by the company’s target markets

• Create, implement and manage a systematic, predictable and repeatable 
product development process which is transparent and collaborative in nature 
and ensures highest quality software products

• Create, organize and disseminate a knowledge base of competitive and 
customer information for use in the product management process and in 
developing, selling and marketing the company’s products

• Develop a culture of collaborative and rapid product decision making 
which objectively considers a 360 degree view of product requirements and makes 
timely product decisions

• Work closely with the engineering team to communicate product 
requirements and ensure clarity throughout the development process

*Specific Responsibilities*

• Collect, organize, prioritize and disseminate market driven information 
from all available sources including customers, competitors, analysts, research 
reports and articles, events such as trade shows, trade publications, sales, 
engineering, technical support and executive management

• Set and manage product development priorities based on market 
requirements, competitive positioning, company strategic direction, tactical 
sales opportunities, customer requests and available product development 
resources

• Develop product development and release plans

• Manage product release cycle across multiple company departments

• Write Market Requirement Documents (MRD) which clearly present a 
business case

• Write Product Requirement Documents (PRD) which provide full coverage 
use cases that can be used by engineering to author technical specifications 
and test plans for developing, testing, and implementing product features and 
functionality

• Effectively communicate with sales, marketing, engineering, technical 
support and executive management to collect and disseminate product information

• Research competitors and provide comprehensive competitive product 
analysis on features and product use

• Develop and facilitate internal product training, including creation of 
sales tools working with product marketing

• Provide technical product data to Product Marketing for the purpose of 
marketing communication

• Develop a product roadmap which clearly communicates to customers and 
prospects product direction, strategy and vision

*Required Personal Skills*

• Strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively across multiple 
discipline areas

• Exceptional negotiation skills with a style that promotes a free flow of 
information and buy in

• Clear and concise writing ability for expressing technical and business 
concepts

• Organized, methodical, process and detail oriented

• Effective facilitation skills for organizing and leading 
results-oriented meetings

• Ability to create and manage detailed project plans based on input from 
multiple constituencies

• Analytical strength for making business-oriented trade-off decisions in 
a limited resource environment

• Team player, able to work with both technical and creative people

• Flexible and open to constructive criticism

*Required Experience*

• Five or more years of enterprise software product management

• Three or more years with a security company in a product management, 
engineering or
marketing capacity

• B.S in Computer Science or other information technology field or 
equivalent

*Highly Desired Experience*

• Previous high tech start-up experience

• Hands-on experience with security products such as firewalls, IDS and 
SIM products
