Position: Security Engineer
Location: New York City, New York, US
Type: Permanent F/T
Closing Date: 05/22/2005
Our client, a major financial institution located in NYC is seeking an IT
Security Engineer.
The IT Security Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of network,
application, web and
database security in our client’s IT Infrastructure and systems. Duties
will include:
Monitoring and assessment of security on the firm's network perimeter and
internal architecture.
Deisgn, Architecture, Engineer, Technology and Vendor evaluation and selection,
and
deployment of security solutions for the various technical platforms.
Build requirements, design, develop, document and implement security strategies
for the firm.
Assist Security Manager in carrying out the Audit, Change Management, and
Compliance/
regulatory aspects of the group's overall responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
* Day-to-day support of existing security tools and monitoring of IDS and
Firewalls.
* Perform Application Security Assessment to reviews of new applications.
* Assist with administrative duties such as user requests for application
access, password
changes, change control process and procedure, etc.
* Meet with firm’s employees to uncover their current and future security
needs.
* Meet with vendors to evaluate their tools to satisfy the firm's current and
future needs.
* Assist in the security design of new applications and IT architecture
changes.
* Closely work with project managers to ensure timely delivery.
Required Skills:
• Maintain Windows/Unix Security Policy.
• Conduct security evaluations and risk assessments of applications,
infrastructure, and network interfaces.
• Work with development/business teams to ensure security in applications
and/or IT-based services.
• Periodically assess the effectiveness of the network’s perimeter
controls and devices.
• Research, assess, and recommend security products and tools to enhance
the Bank’s security posture.
• Assist with the management of Firewalls rules and router ACLs.
• Potential to step in as the Manager of the group when the CISO is not
available.
Required Skills:
• Minimum of five years strong, documented, security experience in a
Windows NT & 2000 and Sun/HP-UX environment within a banking environment.
• Experience in current client/server OS environments – preferably XP
and Advanced Server 2003.
• In-depth working knowledge with or administrating XP and/or Advanced
Server 2003 is preferred.
• Must have working knowledge and understanding of TCP/IP or the 7 layer
model from a security perspective.
• Firewall experience with Checkpoint experience highly desirable. At a
minimum, Raptor and/or Cisco PIX firewall experience.
• Understanding of Network Intrusion Detection concepts is essential,
working experience with Symantec’s ESM and ITA security tools preferred.
• Attack and penetration experience in developing good security practices,
along with knowledge of how to resolve security related issues from scans of
the network.
• Knowledge of password management and single-sign-on practices and
solutions, experience with the P-Synch product is beneficial.
• Must have prior experience supporting a 24 x 7, critical system
production environment.
• Ability to work with various levels of business users, other IT staff
and vendors to resolve business and systems issues in a timely manner.
• Excellent written/oral communications skills.
Candidate should have at least 5 years of professional experience and must
possess thorough
network and security knowledge to be able to enhance, and engineer our firms'
current
architectures.
Comprehensive knowledge of network security/firewall technologies, and host and
network
based intrusion detection as well as deployments and establishing best
practices is required.
Hands-on experience is a must.
Windows 98/NT/2K,
Patch analysis and tools,
Security Event correlation and investigation,
Security Policy Creation,
Ethical Hacking,
Quality Assurance / Change Control,
Routers/Switches/Hubs/Bridges,
Excellent organization and communications skills
Experience with LAN/WAN Networking,
Experience with Cisco routers and switches and various VPN products,
Experience with Routing Protocols,
Security / Network / Certifications a plus: CISSP, SANS, GEAC, CCSP, CCIE,
CCDA, CCNA
Strong Analytical Thinking and Excellent Troubleshooting
Knowledge of Security Best Practices,
Ability to manage multiple projects
College degree preferred.
