Position: Security System Administrator

Major Responsibilities:The Security Response System Administrator role combines
the responsibilities of supporting the Security Response team on a day-to-day
basis and participating in longer-term projects to support the team’s
operations.The principal responsibility of the candidate is to provide
day-to-day support for the operational team by managing the test network on
which engineering work is done, consisting of hubs, switches, firewalls, test
machines and any other devices required. Management of this environment
consists of setting up and maintaining test systems, ensuring their continued
availability, maintaining Ghost images of them, maintaining a library of
essential software, as well as making regular backups of key systems.The
applicant must be able to occasionally work in high-pressure situations while
remaining focused on the task to be completed. The candidate will need to work
closely with other members of Security Response to quickly fix any problems tha
t may arise with the test environment.Solid written and verbal communication
skills are a necessary part of the role. A strong customer focus is essential.
Patience and diplomacy in dealing with other employees both inside and outside
Security Response is also required.The candidate will occasionally need to be
available at short notice to restore systems to working order.The candidate is
expected to be able to work with minimum supervision and to balance daily
responsibilities against those of longer-term project work. Strong
problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills are a must, due to the necessity to
quickly resolve problems as they arise.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Position Requirements and Education:B.Sc Degree, preferably in a computer
science-related field, or equivalent industry experience.CCNA, MCSE, or MCSA
desirable.Experience in following areas is required: TCP/IP networking,
Shell/Perl scripting, setting up and maintaining systems running Windows XP and
Windows 2000 Professional Edition and Server.Experience in the following areas
is desirable: Unix, ideally Solaris/Linux, use of hubs and switches, managing
FTP/file servers, backing up and restoring systems, PC hardware configuration
and troubleshooting. An understanding of IT Security and system hardening would
be beneficial.
Critical Success Factors :Systematic Problem Solving: The ability to
troubleshoot systems and restore them quickly to working order is
vital.Interpersonal skills: Must be able to interact comfortably and
diplomatically with members of Security Response and employees in other
departments in Symantec.Communication: The ability to communicate complex
issues in a simple manner, both written and verbal.Team player: The ability to
work in a closely-knit team to achieve project goals.Flexibility: The ability
on occasion to work within an unstructured work environment and deal with
quickly changing circumstances.Self-starter: Must be able to work with minimal
supervision.
