Pre-Sales Engineer - New York 
 
Description:

The SE is responsible for communicating, demonstrating and implementing 
examples of how customer business needs can be realized and addressed through 
our products.  The ability to relate product feature and functionality in terms 
that directly affect the client’s ability to achieve the full potential of 
their infrastructure is essential.

 

The SE communicates details about the product features, competitive landscape, 
and demonstrates, and installs products to ensure that a technical win is 
obtained. The SE is responsible for presenting and providing the relevant 
technical information at potentially all levels of the organization, necessary 
for end-users, prospects, and customers to successfully implement not only the 
solutions, but other supporting technologies as well.

 

The SE teams closely with the Account Manager, and other company resources such 
as product marketing, professional services, and engineering.  This positon 
will support two Account Managers.

 

In order to build a successful team and territory, the SE might work closely 
with regional technical groups, industry analysts, and consultants to 
evangelize solutions. These efforts will include trade shows, seminars, and 
presentations to large groups.

 

This is a field position with approximately 60% travel and based in the local 
geography.

 



JOB REQUIREMENTS

Requirements: 
Five+ years experience as the technical member of a team selling enterprise 
software Fortune 1000 companies, both directly and through contractors, with a 
consistent history of success in exceeding sales and customer satisfaction 
targets  Background in highly distributed systems  Strong understanding of 
Operations and Systems Management issues  Strong verbal and written 
communication skills  Strong technical base with ability to easily learn and 
apply new technologies and concepts   Able to transform client requirements 
into a product solution  Experience presenting technical concepts to varied 
audiences at all levels of the organization  Experience installing and 
configuring a wide variety of enterprise software products  Must live in New 
York Metro Area.

 

 

Technical Qualifications:

 

1. A Bachelor's Degree or Higher degree in Computer Science or Information 
Management or Systems and Mathematics.

2. Five (5) years experience in technical installation, administration and 
support of computer products and services or consulting role.

3. Technical strengths and implementation experience in network security 
technologies, architectural design of large, complex network infrastructures, 
and pre and post sales consulting.

4. Operating Systems: Solaris, MS Windows, Linux, HPUX 

5. Expertise in the following areas highly desired: XML, XML Schema, XML DSIG, 
XML Encryption, WS-Security, WSDL, SOAP, UDDI 

6. Exposure to an understanding of Directories / Identity Management Solutions: 
Active Directory, LDAP, and Single Sign on Solutions 

7. Languages and Scripting: Java, C, C++, C#, JavaScript, HTML, Unix shell 

8. Web servers: IIS, Netscape, SunOne 

9. Application Servers:  BEA, IBM WebSphere, TOMCAT, JBOSS

9. Database: Oracle, Sybase, MS SQL Server 

10. Architectures: N-tier, scalable, distributed, fault-tolerant, secure 

11. Working knowledge of XML and Web Service related technologies 

12. PKI Technologies and Certificate Authorities

13. Experience in the implementation of Application or System Performance 
Monitoring and Management products.
