The job will require thorough understanding of VMware products' challenging and unique security models and code base, Linux and Windows security models, knowledge of common attack/vulnerability types, especially in C. The development component of the job includes writing automated tools to detect vulnerabilities, development and maintenance of libraries to safely perform otherwise unsafe operations, integration of security tools, including rules to be run through a meta-compiler, into build process, and open-ended work towards improving our security practices, processes and responsiveness throughout VMware engineering. Primary duties include proactively and reactively identifying, classifying, tracking, and resolving (either directly or by working with others) vulnerabilities in our code base, both in VMware code as well as in open source 3rd party components shipped as part of our product line. It w ill include working with 3rd party auditing companies and working to do more auditing internally, and improving engineering practices.
