Senior Security Engineer
Responsibilities
Senior security engineer passionate about secure code and a strong track record
of security hardening. The senior security engineer will be responsible for the
ongoing security engineering of our enterprise products. The engineer acts as
the point of focus for all security issues with VMware's enterprise product and
plays a key role in the security patch release process. The job will require
thorough understanding of enterprises' security issues, Linux/Windows security
models, knowledge of common attack/vulnerability types, especially in C. The
development component of the job includes kernel/OS security feature
development, hardening of operating systems, using/writing automated tools to
detect vulnerabilities, integration of security tools into build process, and
open-ended work towards improving our security practices, processes and
responsiveness. Duties also include proactively and reactively identifying,
classifying, tracking, and resolving (either directly or by workin
g with others) vulnerabilities, both in VMware code as well as in 3rd party
components shipped as part of our product line.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

· BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent (Ph.D. a plus)
· 8+ years of software development
· Hands-on experience with security hardening of commercial
products.
· Strong systems knowledge/kernel experience, especially with
Linux, is required in this role. OpenBSD security experience a plus.
· Good hands-on implementer, and strong C programming skills.
Intimate knowledge of system security vulnerabilities and remediation
techniques.
· Ability and desire to come up with innovative approaches to
code security
· Specific knowledge of intrusion detection, vulnerability
analysis, security analysis, firewalls, and conceptual view of security and
impact on software products
· Proven ability to successfully implement security improvements
on a large source base
