Must have an operations background and work ethic to provide expert networking support 24x7x365. In order to fit within this team, the preferred candidate will have been considered the authority for networking in their previous employment. This organization combines classic network architecture, engineering, quality assurance, implementation and operations position responsibilities. The underlying technical culture of the group is driven by the continued questions of why and what if? Complimentary to their technical knowledge will be their accomplished skills in communications and customer service. Some of the day to day responsibilities include: Perform a variety of complex and technical functions including designing, testing and installing network software and hardware. Analyze systems to determine effectiveness and inefficiencies and make written recommendations for improvements. Perform troubleshooting of complex network problems utilizing network analyzers and/or sniffers and other troubleshooting tools. Test and evaluate various equipments, systems, IOSs and procedures for use within the network. Serve as technical member on global infrastructure project teams as required. Construct and maintain configurations for data networks. Oversee or assist in creating and maintaining graphical and text-based network documentation and standards development. Oversee or assist in configuring and implementing network monitoring and management systems. Analyze current network software and propose modifications and new software for impact standards and procedures. Evaluate new network software and hardware that will enhance the network environment. Analyze production or development problems to determine whether they are caused by network software malfunctions and make corrections as needed. JOB REQUIREMENTS --------------------------------------------------- Required Knowledge and Skills: - Must have significant networking experience within a large ISP networking operations environment. - 10 years hands-on networking experience with a BS (EE, CS) or equivalent - CCNA, CCNP or CCIE certification is preferred - Exceptional skills with Cisco, Nortel/Alteon, Foundry, Packteer networking devices - Strong Experience with DNS and IP administration - Expertise in LAN protocols such as HSRP, Spanning Tree Protocol, and VLAN Trunking - Strong experience with TCP/IP, RIP, OSPF, BGP and EIGRP - Hands-on experience with WAN network topologies and hardware (CSU/DSU, Private Line, Frame Relay, ATM, SONET, MPLS) - Strong organization skills - Strong customer service skills with exceptional verbal and written communication skills - Successful track record completing complex network engineering projects - Knowledge of caching technology, RADIUS and TACACS useful - Knowledge of Network Management tolls such as Cisco Works, MRTG, Sniffer - Must be able to work unsupervised, be a self started, well organized and be able to multi-task - Ability to remain calm under high-pressure atmosphere - Ability to serve as the lead over a small team of network staff - Must be a quick learner that embraces change This position will allow the ideal candidate to further develop their networking skills while they mentor other team members.
