Position: Sr. Security Engineer
Location: New York (Brooklyn Metrotech), New York, US
Type: Permanent F/T

IT Security Specialist - IS #1500
Salary Range $57,817 - $105,315 + Excellent Comprehensive Benefits Package
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Responsibilities will include:
- Implement and maintain perimeter email with a focus on antivirus, anti-spam
and overall domain security
- Plan and implement complex hardware, software and network security design
projects with a minimum of supervision
- Debug hardware/software problems with the network, hosts and firewalls using
packet analysis tools
- Administer and support VPN users and remote sites, TACACS, DNS, web content
filtering
- Prepare documentation such as security guides for server administrators
- Support other operational units as a security consultant.
This is a senior level position and will require overtime. In addition, work
schedules may be outside of normal business hours. The person selected will be
on call and expected to respond in cases of emergencies during non-working
hours and on scheduled days off.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

PREFERRED SKILLS:
- In-depth knowledge of the Solaris operating system, applications such as BIND
and Sendmail using TLS and milter, and the ability to build customized versions
of these applications from source with a high degree of attention to detail
- Experience with Sun and Veritas Volume Mangers used on SAN connected hosts
- Familiarity with Solaris-based email antivirus and anti-spam applications
- Familiarity with running an internal CA using open SSL
- In-depth familiarity with IP protocols
- Ability to write computer programs of moderate complexity in Perl and shell
scripts
- In-depth knowledge of security tools such as Nessus and Netforensics
- Practical experience building security toolsets from open source
- Ability to write technical documentation in plain language
- Familiarity with Computer Emergency Response procedures
- Ability to function as part of a team of network and application engineers
working to complete a project
- Experience administering perimeter email systems with a large number of
downstream domains is a plus, as is experience with the Juniper SSL remote
access appliances.
Certification is required for this position. The candidate will possess one of
CISSP, CCSP, GIAC, Sun Certified Network Administrator (8 or 9) or Red Hat
Certified Engineer certificate.
CIVIL SERVICE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Professional/vendor certification(s) in wide area network administration that
is required for the position to be filled.
Required Vendor Certification (candidates must possess at least one): Certified
Info Systems Security Prof (CISSP), GIAC Certification, Cisco Certified
Security Professional (CCSP), Sun Certified Network Administrator 9.0, Red Hat
Certified Engineer or Check Point Certified Security Expert (CCSE).
In addition, all candidates must have the following:
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and two years of
satisfactory, full-time (not classroom based) experience in wide area network
planning, design, configuration, installation, troubleshooting, integration,
performance monitoring, maintenance, enhancement, and security management or
2. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years
of satisfactory, full-time (not classroom based) information technology
experience of which at least 2 years must have been as described in '1' above
or
3. A Master's degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited
college may substitute for one year of experience. However, all candidates must
have at least one year of satisfactory (not classroom based) full-time
information technology experience as described in '1' above.
NOTE: In addition to meeting the minimum qualification requirements, incumbents
may be required to update existing and/or obtain additional professional
industry-standard certification(s) for current and future technical
environment(s) in which they may be assigned to work as determined by the
employing agency.
