Position: Sr. Product Manager
Location: Redwood City, California, US
Type: Permanent F/T
Closing Date: 01/29/2005
Major Responsibilities
- Function as lead product manager for Symantec Network & Gateway Solutions
(NGS) group content (i.e. IDS/IPS signatures, generic exploit blocking scripts,
etc.) by ensuring the success of existing projects currently underway,
routinely measuring performance, and leading new efforts to improve NGS
products and operations.
- Provide intrusion detection / intrusion prevention domain expertise on an
ongoing basis to organization while maintaining a technical understanding of a
broad range of security solutions supported by Symantec.
- Understand, research and recommend leading threat detection, protection and
repair functionality working with Symantec Response and product teams.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings with IPS product teams to plan,
contribute to strategy and monitor product plans.
- Assist in mapping, validating and determining feasibility of Response and
content solutions as defined by product and cross-functional teams
- Drive product teams to understand value and importance of threat intelligence
and insight -Provide ongoing sales tools and support to communicate the value,
capabilities and differentiation of Symantec Response
- Create and or drive creation of sales tools, white papers and other
collateral
- Execute the security outbreak communications / management process on a
rotating basis with other team members
- Assist or lead testing initiatives with 3rd parties such as trade
publications and independent labs to assess and improve NGS content breadth,
depth and timeliness
- Perform competitive analysis of other companies’ response and content
solutions (esp. IDS/IPS) that result in product team briefings/recommendations
as well as sales tools/briefings
- Conduct speaking engagements and handle PR requests representing the Symantec
Response organization particularly regarding new attacks and vulnerabilities
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Position Requirements and Education:
Two to four years of product management experience delivering enterprise
software solutions is required.
Experience in the security industry required, experience with IDS/IPS solutions
heavily preferred
BA/BS degree or equivalent. MBA a plus.
Ideal Candidate should have:
§ Established product management skills
§ Demonstrated leadership and creative problem solving
§ Process analysis improvement knowledge
§ Business opportunity analysis experience (e.g. ROI analysis, trade-off
analysis)
§ Solid project management skills
§ Solid grasp of the evolving Internet threat landscape
§ Commitment to keeping current on breaking information security events &
trends
§ Be able to work well under pressure and within deadlines
§ Excellent written and verbal communication, and impeccable follow up
§ Strong writing and presentation skills
§ Some marketing and or marketing communications background helpful
