Position: Security Engineer

Job Purpose
This role is to perform 3rd line support for Cisco LAN & WAN and
Nokia/Checkpoint firewall network. As part of the Production team you will be
responsible for ensuring that systems and services are available to business
customers across Europe. You will be expected to provide a leading role within
the team, helping to support and develop other, more junior team members.
Job Scope
To resolve live operational incidents on LAN, WAN and firewall network. To
perform pro-active maintenance work on network systems. To work closely with
the other members of the Production team regarding operational network issues.
To be part of a support rota to cover telecom and network systems.
Responsibilities / Work Activities
· Perform 2nd/3rd line support to UK and European network.
· Define and perform preventative maintenance activities on
router, switch and firewall network
· Produce support documentation and provide training to
1st/2nd/3rd line support teams
· Uses network management systems tools to determine network load
and model performance statistics. Creates reports and proposals for improvement.
· Investigate and diagnose complex network problems, working with
users, other staff and suppliers as appropriate. Resolve problems, to maintain
overall network performance.
· As directed, implement network changes and maintenance
routines, utilising the appropriate tools and test equipment.
· Monitor service providers, service quality and health & safety
review performance of networks, suppliers and service provided to users.
Monitor maintenance standards.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Technical Knowledge and Skills
Essential
· Nokia firewall and Checkpoint engineer with 3-5 years
operations experience (preferably CCSA and CCSE)
· Cisco engineer with 3-5 years experience (preferably CCNP)
· Excellent troubleshooting skills
· Expert in the planning and management of the interaction
between two or more networking systems, computers or other
"intelligent" devices. Examples: ATM, Ethernet, TCP/IP, load balancers
· Network Traffic Analysis: proficient in methods and techniques
for the capture of traffic information and the analysis of this information
into its constituent elements.
· Extensive experience of Cisco routers and switches in a large
network environment (both CATOS and IOS)
· Experience of Cisco CallManager
· Good knowledge of routing protocols
Desirable
· Experience of Cisco ICM (VoIP)
· Experience of Cisco IPIVR
· Experience of Cisco VPNs
· Understanding of voice technologies
· Experience of Nortel Baystack switches
· Experience of Cisco Content Switch Modules
Other Knowledge and Skills
· Project Planning and Control Techniques: familiar with methods
and techniques associated with planning and monitoring progress of projects.
Examples: product/work breakdown structures, critical path analysis, earned
value, resource analysis, conflict resolution.
· Good document writing skills
· Ability to communicate complex technical issues to a
non-technical audience
· Good presentation skills
