Security Event Management Engineer (Consultant) – New York, NY 

PRINCIPALS ONLY – MUST LIVE WITHIN 30 MINUTES OF NYC 

Job Description 

All candidates must have strong background in insurance and/or financial 
services in an enterprise level environment. 

Vigilant is looking for an experienced security engineer to work on a contract 
basis delivering Vigilant’s suite of productized security services. 

This individual will be responsible for the design and implementation of 
security event management systems (such as Intellitactics, eSecurity, 
OpenService etc…) for Vigilant’s customer base. Responsibilities 
include engineering, developing and documenting network architectures and 
producing detailed designs. Responsibilities also include procuring, 
configuring, installing and monitoring critical production and Wide Area 
Networks for security related incidents. 

Candidate must have extensive experience with security event management 
products specifically in the areas of custom rule creation, building custom 
listeners, applying practical logic data warehousing and management, and 
security transporting log data. 

Additionally, the candidate should have detailed knowledge of, switches, VPNs, 
firewalls, content scanners and intrusion detection devices conducting network 
vulnerability assessments developing test concepts and methodologies developing 
test plans, procedures and reports leading and participating in technical 
meetings and design reviews presenting proposed designs to customers and other 
contractors supporting security certification and accreditation and developing 
trade-off studies, proposals and cost estimates. 


JOB REQUIREMENTS
---------------------------------------------------
Detailed knowledge of: 
• Security Event Management products (eSecurity, OpenService, 
Intellitactics, Network Intelligence, etc…) 
• Network Security appliances (IDS, Firewall, VPN, Intrusion Prevention) 
• Network and Application Protocols (IP, TCP, UDP, FTP, HTTP, DNS, 
routing, etc.) 
• IT security practices, trends and markets 
• Unix/Linux/Windows Logging 
• Regulatory mandates such as HIPPA, Sarbanes Oxley, and GLBA 

Ability to: 
• Understand how security is implemented in a business focused enviroment. 
• Secure mission-critical networks for large enterprise environments. 
• Write policy and procedure documents pertaining to security event 
management. 
• Perform “hands-on” deployment of IDS, Firewalls, and other 
security technologies. 

Aptitude and Education: 
• Excellent oral and written communication skills 
• Savvy market awareness 
• Security Certification (e.g. CISSP, SANS Training) desired 
• BS/MS degree in engineering or computer science preferred 

Experience Required: 

3-5 years in the following: 

• Scripting/Programming Experience (PERL, shell scripting, C, use of 
Regular Expressions. 
• Security data handling as it relates to security event management tools. 
(Correlation of disparate data types, consolidation of logs, report generation) 
• Intrusion Detection (Deployment, log handling, writing signatures) 
• Firewall (Deployment, management) 
• Scripting/Programming Experience (C, PERL, use of RegEx, and Unix 
Scripting) 

Additional Experience in the following areas: 

• Network Systems Management (Open platforms such as Tivoli and Openview) 

Location/Travel: 

Travel should be expected.
