Position: Security Engineer
Type: Permanent F/T
Closing Date: 10/17/2004
Top Layer Networks is looking for a Security Specialist to join our top-notch
security team. The Security Specialist will provide rapid response service to
our customers and effectively communicate the advantage our products offer in
attack mitigation. The individual in this role will work jointly with the
product management and engineering departments to further enhance our existing
products and assist in developing future products.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE:
- Understand the mechanisms and causes of
security vulnerabilities via monitoring of
security mailing lists, use of 3rd party
research services, and ongoing development of
our own internal monitoring approaches.
Development of various classifications for
vulnerabilities.
- Research protocols and determine possible
security vulnerabilities with them.
- Help ensure that Top Layer continues to have a
rapid response to security vulnerabilities when
they occur by analyzing the situation,
developing a solution, and providing the
information to both our IPTSS (Intrusion
Prevention Technical Support Service) team
about how our customers should react to the
situation, and our product management and
engineering teams for ongoing product
development.
- Develop guidelines for improvements in our
security products, particularly our IPS 5500
product line.
- Maintain the database of security information.
- Create and deliver security related training
and publications.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:
- Network and application protocols (IP, TCP,
UDP, FTP, HTTP, DNS, SMTP, routing, etc.)
- Network security protocols (authentication,
encryption and compression)
- Network security appliances (IDS, Firewall,
VPN, Intrusion Prevention)
- IT security practices, trends and markets
- Knowledge of causes and mechanisms of
vulnerabilities
APTITUDE & EDUCATION:
- Excellent verbal and written communication
skills.
- 5+ years experience in the security market
sector, preferably in a product development
environment.
- Undergraduate 4-year technical degree.
