Interesting article Kelly and I liked how you highlighted those that stand to gain(financially) from the new OS. It echoes what many have been saying(and what I've been telling my director/management etc) that there are no advantages for migrating yet. Also, there are no major disadvantages with staying on XP(as far as I can see. So I'll shrug my shoulders and wait. Someone told me that since it is more secure, then shouldn't the security conscious be treating it like the mother of all patches? (Patch often and early!) But when I think of the impact of a 'patch' like that my eyes glaze over and I hear the sound of chopper blades and people screaming in panic that 'the server has died' or that 'the network is down' and 'is Word meant to flash purple like that?'. Pre Traumatic Stress Disorder they call it. I like to adhere to the old CIA security triumvirate as much as possible and sometimes availability trumps everything for 'business' people. -----Original Message----- From: listbounce@securityfocus.com [mailto:listbounce@securityfocus.com] On Behalf Of Kelly Martin Sent: Wednesday, January 31, 2007 5:07 AM To: security-basics@securityfocus.com Subject: SF new column announcement: The New Vista Waiting Game The following column was published on SecurityFocus today: The New Vista Waiting Game by Kelly Martin published 2007-01-30 Vista is a step forward in security, but many businesses will be stuck with Windows XP for years to come. The cost of upgrading, the value of existing assets, and enterprise application compatibility issues trump the security advantages of Vista today in the classic enterprise waiting game. http://www.securityfocus.com/columnists/431
