When you say monitor, what do you mean? You can use the built-in Computer Management console on the file server (it's in Administrative Tools), assuming you're using a version of Windows greater than or equal to 2000. When you're in the Computer Management console, go to System Tools>Shared Folders>Shares. This will let you see every share, hidden or visible, on the server, in the right pane. Also, it will show their path on the server's local drive, the share type, and the number of clients currently using the share. You can also use this to adjust share and NTFS security for each share, publish them to AD, and set Offline Sync options for each. Does this answer your question?
