Why not using distros as Phlack, Auditor, Knoppix, Whax and so on ?
They have been done for that kind of purpose, and they do not need any install
(they run directly from the CD) ?
The drawback is that you cannot use several distros at the same time, but
VMWare is quite "heavy".

I'm busy setting up a test lab with different OS's using VMWare so I can learn
more about breaking into machines as well as preventing the breakins. Is there
any specific software I should have installed on the Virtual machines that
would help. I'm thinking on the lines of software the pstools, fport, etc.
