There was very good utility for this purpose. But I forget the name. I am sure google search will turn up the utility. Also both http://www.imlogic.com and http://www.iss.net/ provides tools for IM detection. IMLogic maybe what you are looking for.
i am new in infoSec field so my manager asked me to give him a list of IM and P2P users in our network
