Hi Murad, There's a figurative sense of "burn"? You mean put them in a car and do burn outs? I think you meant burn as in burn, and that's what I'd also recommend - I wouldn't recommend burning 'em in an enclosed space because the deliberate concentration and inhalation of the smoke produced may be harmful or fatal (to paraphrase a spray paint can). -- Regards, Hilton Travis Phone: +61 (0)7 3344 3889 (Brisbane, Australia) Phone: +61 (0)419 792 394 Manager, Quark IT http://www.quarkit.com.au Quark Group http://quarkgroup.com.au/ Microsoft Small Business Specialists http://www.threatcode.com/ <-- its now time to shame poor coders into writing code that is acceptable for use on today's networks War doesn't determine who is right. The tape is damaged-can't write to it but I can read from it. -----Original Message----- From: Aditya Deshmukh <aditya.deshmukh@online.gateway.strangled.net> Date: Thu, 24 Nov 2005 08:31:44 To:"'Murad Talukdar'" <talukdar_m@subway.com>, security-basics@securityfocus.com Subject: RE: secure disposal of backup tapesHi I wanted to get some ideas from everyone for secure disposal of DDS/TRAVAN/DLT backup tapes.Using a hammer on them then cutting the tapes up with sissors.... What is the security level of data that was on them ? Maybe just a plain write with multiple patterns and putting them up on eBay might be enoughHow do you burn yours? Please do *not* burn them they might be toxic Kind Regards Murad Talukdar Senior Computer Operator Subway Systems Australia
