hi,
i suggest you to learn the linux or any other linux like system
thorughly.try to learn the basic concept.once u mastered tht u can
easily learn any other os.

Actually there is, raw socket support and tcp connection limits from Sp2
for XP break some things.  Just load up a Linux box and learn the OS, it
is a lot of fun.  I wrote an easy to follow install guide for snort that
is on the snort.org site that can get you going with both snort and
Linux.it is written for CentOS, Fedora Core, or RHEL (Redhat Enterprise
Linux)
