Of course you need an account with enough permission to allow you to
change the run level before this will work? Or can it be done from the
loader?

With red hat you can change the kernel boot level in grub/lilo by adding
a 1 to the end of the kernel line in the loader.

Hi Seymour,

If you boot into single user mode on SCO you should then be able to
login as root at the console, change the passwd from there.
To boot into single user mode use 'init 1'
