It fits the "more layers - more secure" theory , but the real question is how efficient is it? you're servers will still be accessible to everyone in you're LAN , (usually what you care most about is you're servers), I say , if you have the MONEY and TIME to deploy manage and maintain it - go for it , otherwise I would spend all the above , protecting my LAN.
