Hi,

Despite my best efforts, I cannot figure out how to get a "Permission denied" message after each failed password entry when configured with UsePAM. As you can see below, it only says permission denied after three attempts and not after each one.

# ssh <ipaddr> -l josh
Password:
Password:
Password:
Permission denied (publickey,keyboard-interactive).

That "Permission denied" message is from the ssh client, so changing the PAM config won't make any difference.

My sshd is OpenSSH_3.8.1p1, OpenSSL 0.9.7e 25 Oct 2004.

On what platform? Newer version of OpenSSH are better at passing back messages from PAM modules.

Good judgement comes with experience. Unfortunately, the experience
usually comes from bad judgement.
